About Us

Lone Creek Farm started out as a small plot in the South Whidbey Tilth community garden more than a decade ago and gradually evolved to become a fresh cut flower business in 2020.

We now farm on an acre near Bailey’s Corner on the far south end of Whidbey with a third of an acre devoted to annual cut flowers and vegetables surrounded by a slowly developing orchard, berry field, and perennial gardens.

We are deeply devoted to being good stewards of the land we tend, and to promoting ecological diversity on our farm. Farmer/owner Ida holds a degree in Biology with special focus on the interactions between plants, insects, and fungi. This background knowledge is an integral part of how we manage our land and soil, and we are especially passionate about providing habitat for native bees, songbirds and our local bat population.

Practices

We closely follow organic practices, although we are not certified. We do not use any type of herbicides or pesticide sprays, as even some that are labeled for organic use can harm native pollinators. We occasionally use organic approved Sluggo and beneficial soil nematodes to help reduce pest populations. Our soil improvement strategy consists of cover cropping with multi-species blends and adding occasional applications of compost and organic fertilizer.
