Producer
We are a small, 15-acre farm near Maxwelton Beach on beautiful South Whidbey Island. Farming is a long-time dream for Brendan and me —both of us grew up on farms, and after decades, we finally made it a reality four years ago. (Yes, we started farming in our 60s!)
Guided by a deep commitment to stewardship, we care for this land with the goal of supporting both healthy food and thriving native habitat, always striving to give back more than we pull out. We grow for our family and our community, working to balance production with preservation. For those nearby, our farmstand is located on the corner of Mortland Dr and Swede Hill Rd, adjacent to the Scatchet Head community.
Now in our third year, we’re learning what it takes to not only grow food but share it sustainably. Like many farmers, we both work full-time off the farm—but we keep coming back to this work because we truly love what we do here.
At Woodsong, we farm with a deep respect for the land we’ve been lucky enough to call home. While we’re not certified organic, our practices reflect that commitment—we focus on building healthy soil through no-till methods, cover crops, crop rotation, companion planting and compost enrichment. We do not use chemical-based fertilizers or pest controls. Through this circular rhythm we follow the seasons with the intention of staying curious, continuing to learn and giving back to the farm more than we take.
What we grow changes with the seasons: a colorful mix of fruits and vegetables, along with mobile pastured eggs and pastured pork from animals raised with care using no hormones or antibiotics. Everything we produce reflects our commitment to healthy land, healthy food, and our local community.
About our pork, we raise USDA inspected pastured pork with a dedication to humane animal care, ecological stewardship, and exceptional quality. We keep small groups of pigs annually which are raised outdoors on pasture where they can root, forage, and live naturally, producing richly marbled, flavorful pork. They are rotated around pastures weekly to ensure pasture health and good forage. In addition to forage, they are fed certified organic grain which gives them the proper protein and nutrient balance. We Keep things small and high touch, which means quantities are seasonal and limited. We love our pigs and spend a lot of time with them. We think our pork is exceptional and we hope you do too!
